Weekend before MD....

Hi! sorry i didn't write yesterday :( Long day and we didn't get to Stigler until about 9:45 p.m. last night.....so here's the scoop.

Friday-Feb. 6th: Mom stayed home with dad and she talked him into taking her to Country Boy shop over in Warner, OK. It's such a fun little place. Lots of things to see and it has a "western" shop attached to it with lots of boots, etc....when we were there over Christmas break '08 this year, mom found a cute little cowgirl (real leather) fringed vest and skirt but it was fairly expensive being that it was real suede/leather and I didn't want mom to buy that for Claire when she has so much already....long story short....she called me today on my lunch break and said "Brooke you need to bring Claire's horse down and her other cowgirl things". She meant her cowgirl hat and boots, but her pink cowgirl boots don't fit her anymore so we'll make do with other shoes. I was laughing and asked her, "Mom...you didn't go get that cowgirl outfit for her did you???" She answered back, "yes I did and I made your dad take me over there to get it because mimi can get it for her" :) I was just smiling all over! :) Too cute!

That evening Hillary and Ryan (along with their dog, Chip) and Breck, Claire, and I (along with our dog, Cooper) all left to drive down to Stigler to be there over the weekend. This morning we all got up and had breakfast. Dad and Breck went to get mom a coffee from McDonald's...she loves those! I'm thinking she'll have lots of visitors today again. She has a really cute poster/banner from her kids at school. Today's plans are to clean the house, do all the laundry, make sure mom and dad are packed up because they'll fly out tomorrow at 3 p.m. from Tulsa.

Here's the MD update as of Friday: She'll meet with her neurosurgeon, Dr. Rao, at 2 p.m. on Monday and then a cardiologist at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.....no date set for surgery yet, they are "thinking" possibly Thursday???? We'll keep you posted! I'll write later to let you know how are day goes today! --Love you all and thank you for your prayers....GOD hears YOU! Brooke

LATER TODAY....well, we enjoyed family time and visitors. We made sure things were ready to go for their stay in Houston. Four wheeler rides, cleaning up the house and packing were all things that were done today. We had a great day, the weather was beautiful and we ended our evening with a family dinner at Uncle Donnie's house (dad's brother). It was delicious and we topped it off by playing the Wii games! So funny. Until tomorrow....

Note: Mom and dad THANK everyone for all their love and support through this journey ahead. It has been overwhelming and gracious and we all thank you so much. So tonight, say your prayers for mom and their safe flight to Houston tomorrow. Love and good night! Brooke

  2. Brooke and Hillary,

If you need a place to spend the night on your way down to Houston next week, John and I would absolutely LOVE to have you stay overnight here with us. If y'all get a late start coming down next Tuesday, it would give you a chance to get a good night's rest and drive the remaining 160 miles from here to Houston the next morning. We welcome any other family members or friends, as well. We have plenty of room and would love to share our home if it would help in some small way. Enjoy your weekend in Stigler and we will talk to you very soon! Give your mom a big hug from us...she is in our daily thoughts and prayers.

    Love to all,

    Ann and John

  5. Doreen & family, I seem to have a feeling of anticipation (may seem silly) about your upcoming hospital visit. I can already feel God's assurance that you are going to be fine. The song "God will make this trial a blessing" keeps ringing in my ears. I am blessed by being acquainted in a personal way with you and your family and as you can tell by this site, you are a blessing to so many. I love you and expect good things from God for you.

Phil and I are praying for you daily. We have our other family members, from Alabama to Texas, praying as well. Many of my co-workers at Warner Schools are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers, too, as is our church here in Warner. God bless you, as we know He will.

  13. Dear Lord,

Thank You for this day. Thank You for all the good and beautiful things you’ve already done today, and for all those you will do before this day is through. Thank You for Doreen and for allowing me the honor of being one of her first grade kids many years ago. Thank You, too, for the beautiful smile I have seen every time I have seen her since.

God, we know You still perform miracles. You created this world from nothing. You designed the Earth and everything on it to work in a perfect circle of life. You made the lame to walk again and made the blind to see. Every time a newborn baby cries it is a miracle. Every time someone survives an accident or illness it is a miracle. We KNOW you still work miracles, Lord, and we are asking for one now.

Lord, I pray You will be with Doreen’s medical staff. I ask You to guide the doctors in her treatment plan so that it is Your perfect plan. I ask You to guide the surgeons’ hands and use them to perform Your miracle. Please also be with the nurses and other people caring for her, that they may be kind and comforting to her.

Please be with Chuck, Brook, Hillary, and the rest of Doreen’s family. Please help them remember that this woman who means so much to them is Your daughter and You will protect her. Give them peace, strength and hope.

Please wrap Your arms around the community of Stigler and the rest of us who love Doreen. I pray her supporters will band together whether in person or in spirit, and that through our love and prayers she will be comforted.

I pray specifically for Doreen, God. I ask you to give her the courage and strength to fight this cancer. Lord, please take away the pain and confusion and replace them with comfort and the peace to know that You are God, You are in control, and You will wrap Your arms around her and protect her. I pray that You will use her to show the world you are not through performing miracles. I ask You to heal her either with Your healing hands alone, or through those of her doctors, but I ask You to heal her completely. I pray that she will fully recover from surgery and treatments, and I pray she’ll soon return to doing the things You created her to do.

Thank You again, Lord, for this beautiful person. Thank You for giving her the gift of teaching and for her willingness to touch so many precious lives in so many ways. Thank You for her sweet spirit and for allowing me the privilege of being on the receiving end of so many of her beautiful smiles and kind words. Most of all, thank You for being God, the Almighty Healer.

In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen

  14. Brooke,
Continued prayers for your mom. I can't tell you how much she has been on my mind lately. Your mom made such an impact on my life, she was my 4th grade teacher, what a blast that year was. The night before I started 5th grade she called and asked me what I was going to wear and if I was excited about school starting. That meant so much, she was the only teacher that ever called me like that. Then the greatest of all I was able to do one of my internships for my teaching degree with her. What an encouragement and inspiration she was! Tell her I love her and am praying for her constantly! I know that she is going to beat this. She has such a wonderful family to support her, I know that everything is going to be okay.
    Love,

  21. Doreen I am so glad you had a wonderful day with your family and Claire. Oh how I understand that trip to Country Boy shop for that outfit. Izabella has received many an outfit or toy that could have waited, but the joy in that baby's eyes has a healing power that is beyond words. Only a MiMi can appreciate why you did what you did. I didn' know you were MiMi too! LOL Our girls really do have a lot in common with names!

Courtney that was the most beautiful prayer. It made this Sunday School teacher very proud. I'm so glad you know that there is such power in prayer. It brought tears to my eyes I am so proud of you.

This blog is wonderful I am so glad that Janet Wood Attisha going to be there also. There is a little bit of Stigler all over the world isn't there! I must say we have raised our children well.
